Get ready for an exciting journey into the creation of documentary films with a purpose!

The Iberoamerican Film Festival of Miami and FilmGate Miami announce their collaboration by presenting the "Documentary Film BootCamp Focused on Social Impact". This intensive 5-day workshop will offer you a practical immersion in the creation of documentaries from the perspective of social impact.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to establish valuable connections with guests and personalities from the Iberoamerican Film Festival in Miami, which will allow you to expand your network in the film industry.

This bootcamp is the starting point for building a vibrant community of documentary filmmakers dedicated to social change. We focus on establishing a sustainable network of support and collaboration that endures beyond the workshop, encouraging continuous growth and the creation of projects that leave a significant imprint on society.

Please note that this course will be primarily taught in Spanish.

ABOUT THE MENTORS:

Juan Carlos Castañeda

Juan Carlos Castañeda, a writer, director, and producer, creates content for social justice through documentaries and narratives. He empowers misrepresented communities by collaborating with organizations like  The United Nations, The Equal Justice Initiative, Malteser International, Green Peace, Firelight Media, and the Ford Foundation. Juan's work has earned awards, including acceptance into Sundance 2024 for “Igualada.” Participant Media, Documentales Univision, and PBS have acquired his work. His photography in Haiti has been featured in The Guardian, and Juan has been a winner in the iPhone Photography Awards in 2017 and 2023. His impactful storytelling reflects a commitment to justice and global awareness.

Pedro Delguy

Pedro Delguy, a film graduate from Universidad de Buenos Aires and New School New York, boasts extensive experience in film production. As a director and cinematographer, he has shot his work in the USA, Latin America, Asia, and Europe. Notable projects include the groundbreaking documentary Summer of Hope and the SONY-HBO documentary Sangre Yoruba. Pedro has shot over 50 music videos and 40 commercials for brands like Delta, Netflix, and Adidas. Beyond film, he's an avid photographer, capturing the essence of 27 countries. In 2017, he founded We Are Tigers, and in 2019, Rebel Camera.

Billy Corben

Billy Corben is a producer, director, and actor known for his work in both film and television. His career includes a variety of roles and contributions to numerous projects. Some of his notable works include "Cocaine Cowboys," a series of documentaries about the drug trade in Miami, and "537 Votes," a political documentary. Corben has also been involved in various television projects and has made appearances as a guest in several talk shows and podcasts. His work often explores complex and controversial themes, particularly focusing on true stories and documentary-style filmmaking.

Santiago Maza

Santiago Maza Stern is an acclaimed director and screenwriter in the film and television industry. He has directed notable documentaries and short films like "Los Truenos de San Juan" and "Ciego" since 2008. As a screenwriter, he has been involved in feature films and has received various awards and scholarships. He has also served as an assistant director in many productions and directed advertisements for well-known brands. Additionally, he is an educator in screenwriting and holds a Master's degree in Screenwriting from the London Film School. Currently, he is the Director of the Documentary Department at La Corriente del Golfo.

Juan Crespo

Juan Crespo, founder of 3C Films in Argentina, is an accomplished producer and marketing expert in cinema, television, VOD, and Home Video. As a Business Administrator, he has produced various fiction series, feature films, and documentaries. Since 2001, his company 3C Films specializes in producing and distributing Latin content, boasting over 400 titles. His experience and knowledge make him a key figure in the entertainment industry.

Alina Hleap

Alina Hleap is a producer with more than 30 years of experience. She directs the Hall of Producers and Cinematographic Projects (SAPCINE) and is the National Representative of Producers in CNACC and the National Film Commission in Colombia. She began her career with Carlos Mayolo and has worked in award-winning films such as "La Mansion de Araucaima" and "El Rey." She teaches production workshops, directs film festivals, and has produced "The Skin of the Drum." Her career stands out for significant contributions to the Colombian and international film industry.

Eduardo Rencurrel

Eduardo Rencurrell Díaz is a prominent Cuban audiovisual producer, essayist, and university professor, born in Holguín in 1991. He holds a Doctorate in Art Sciences from the University of the Arts of Cuba. Eduardo has extensive experience in scriptwriting and consulting for various institutions such as CINESOFT and Canal Habana, and has contributed to the production of fiction, documentaries, and advertising for entities like BBC and ITN Channel 4 News. His writings have been published in several countries including Cuba, the United States, and Mexico. He has served as a jury member in audiovisual competitions and held significant roles such as the director of the Film Studies Center at GIRES and a professor at the International School of Film and TV in San Antonio de los Baños. Currently, he is a member of the Scientific Council of the University of the Arts of Cuba, a curricular design specialist for the Film Faculty CDMX, and a professor at the University of Valle in Colombia.

Arturo Pérez

Arturo Pérez, with over 15 years of experience in the film industry, stands out as a distinguished professional in the field of international film distribution and sales. As the co-founder of Vendo Cine, he has been instrumental in film distribution. Since 2022, Arturo has been serving as the Industry Director at the Iberoamerican Film Festival Miami, contributing his expertise in Ibero-American cinema. From 2007 to 2011, he collaborated with the news agency Associated Press and hosted 'El séptimo vicio', a radio program about cinema on Radio UdG. His experience has made him a sought-after jury member and evaluator at various funds, and a speaker and workshop leader on international distribution and sales at film festivals.

Christian Ossa

With 20 years of experience in film and cultural management, Christian Ossa currently leads the social impact area of the Iberoamerican Film Festival in Miami and heads two international film festivals: Cine Suma Paz and We Cam Fest. His work in social impact documentaries has been recognized with various awards.In addition, Christian is the CEO of Social Films International in Miami, dedicated to producing films with significant social, cultural, and environmental impact. He also leads the Fundación Cine Social, promoting cinema as a tool for social change and awareness.

Juan Fernandez

He is a Uruguayan documentary filmmaker born in 1981. With a degree in Communication Sciences, he began his career directing short and medium-length films: "Los Argonautas" (2002), "Cococho" (2003), "Talitha Koum" (2004), and "Hijo" (2005). In 2012, he released his first feature film, "Las Flores de Mi Familia," which was selected for Bafici, DokLeipzig, Thessaloniki, MiradasDoc, among others, and awarded as the best Latin American film at FIDOCS in Santiago, Chile. In 2013, he directed "El Ejercicio de la Democracia," a short film for the series "Huellas: a 40 años del Golpe," broadcasted by TevéCiudad channel. "El retrato de mi padre" (2022), his second feature film, had its world premiere at IDFA. He also works as an editor and teacher.

Pablo Mondragon

Pablo Mondragón, an accomplished music educator and composer, has over 15 years of experience in developing music education methodologies. He has produced and composed for over 70 musical projects, reaching audiences in more than 25 countries, and has been awarded a Diosa de Plata for his original film score. He is also a sponsor of the Guadalajara International Film Festival. Alongside his artistic career, he is the director of a consultancy firm, utilizing his degrees in Marketing from ITESM CCM. Mondragón is also a founder of 24-0, AC, focusing on violence prevention and peace culture through art

Alina Hleap

Alina Hleap es una productora con más de 30 años de experiencia. Dirige el Salón de Productores y Proyectos Cinematográficos (SAPCINE) y es Representante Nacional de Productores en CNACC y Comisión Nacional de Cine en Colombia . Comenzó su carrera con Carlos Mayolo y ha trabajado en películas premiadas como "La mansión de Araucaima" y "El rey". Imparte talleres de producción, dirige festivales de cine, y ha producido "La piel del tambor". Es un documentalista uruguayo nacido en 1981. Licenciado en Ciencias de la Comunicación, comienza su carrera dirigiendo cortometrajes y mediometrajes: Los argonautas (2002), Cococho (2003), Talitha Koum (2004) e Hijo (2005). En 2012 estrena su primer largometraje Las flores de mi familia, seleccionada en Bafici, DokLeipzig, Thessaloniki, MiradasDoc, entre otros, y premiada como mejor película latinoamericana en FIDOCS, Santiago de Chile. Ha producido y compuesto para más de 70 proyectos musicales, alcanzando audiencias en más de 25 países, y ha sido galardonado con una Diosa de Plata por su banda sonora original. Además, es patrocinador del Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara y fundador de 24-0, AC, centrada en la prevención de violencia y cultura de paz a través del arte. Complementa su carrera artística dirigiendo una consultoría, aprovechando sus estudios en Mercadotecnia del ITESM CCM
